WHAT IT IS: A means of publishing short (Messages of the Day) or long (News Items) articles that will show up on all members' My Desktop.
HOW TO GET THERE: Click on Newsroom on My Desktop (Figure 7-1) or the Newsroom tab in the menu bar (Figure 7-2).

HOW IT WORKS: Messages of the Day and News Items are shown on My Desktop and linked to the full message or article. Members can read Messages of the Day and News Items, but only root users and administrators can create and publish them.
To read a Message of the Day or a News Item from My Desktop, click on its headline (Figure 7-3) to display the full text (Figure 7-4).
NOTE: You'll receive an email whenever a Message of the Day or News Item is published. It you'd prefer not receive these emails, click on (Stop notifying by email).

You can also read Messages of the Day and News Items in the Newsroom (see HOW TO GET THERE, above). Click on +read more (Figure 7-5) to read the full text of a News Item or Message of the Day and click on +View older Items in the Archive to view archived News Items (Messages of the Day aren't archived).

To create a News Item:

NO will store this News Item as an Unpublished News Item. It will not be displayed on My Desktop. YES will store this News Item as a Current News Item. It will be displayed on My Desktop. |
Start Publish Date |
This is the first day that the News Item will be shown on My Desktop. Enter the date in the text boxes or click on Select Date to select the date from a calendar. |
End Publish Date |
This is the last day that the News Item will be shown on My Desktop. The default is 30 days after the Start Publish Date. You can change this date by entering a new date in the text boxes or clicking on Select Date and selecting the End Publish Date from a calendar. After the End Publish Date, the News Item is automatically stored in the News Archive. |
Type of News Item |
You cannot change this item. It will automatically display News Item for a News Item and Message of the Day for a Message of the Day. |

If Publish this News Item is set to NO: Submit will save this News Item as an Unpublished News Item that will not be displayed on My Desktop. You can publish this item at a later date. If Publish this News Item is set to YES: Submit will save this News Item as either a Current News Item that is displayed on My Desktop or an Unpublished News Item that will not be displayed on My Desktop until the Start Publish date. |
Creating a Message of the Day is the same as creating a News Item except for the following:
